IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Yuko (the Glaceon)
Canon: Pokemon
OU/AU/OC: OC
Canon Point: When she's traveling Sinnoh after leaving her Trainer. (18 years old)
History:
Yuko was born to two Eevee parents, among quite a few sibling Eevees within Eterna Forest outside of Eterna City.. Staying far away from where humans and human trainers alike roamed, they all enjoyed a quiet life in solitude. This was long before Yuko got her name, as the family used a different method of figuring out which sibling Eevee was which. But she didn't mind. She was happy with her family, even if it was difficult getting along with so many different siblings.
One day, however, they were traveling through a new part of the forest to relocate their home, and the young Eevee ended up sliding down a small ledge out of sight. Her small cries weren't loud enough to reach her family, and thus she had to find her own way back to them. It took her a while, but when she finally did get back to where she fell, they were long gone. She decided to try and follow where they were going, and eventually ended up outside of the forest. It was pretty scary for a young Eevee, but she kept herself going, eventually finding her own food, and beginning to explore on her own. Having a few friends within the forest helped as well. It was a childish thought, but perhaps her parents would be proud of her if she found the new home by herself! ... Never mind the fact that she had no idea where they were relocating to! But it's not like she had any other choice; living in solitude had its downsides. Like not knowing any of the Pokemon outside of the forest!
As days, weeks, months passed, she learned the area around Eterna City, the Forest, and the surrounding routes like they were her very own playground. She tended to steer clear of humans for the most part, only interacting with the Pokemon and learning from them how awful some of the trainers were. Some of them used Pokemon for their own gain, and treated them badly. But there were some trainers that were really nice. The young Eevee resolved never to get caught by a trainer; she'd just stay by herself. That was all well and good in her opinion!
Six months later, however, times changed. One day, she was bounding around the forest, when she realized she was not only way out in the open, no longer in the safety of the trees... but a young girl had spotted her! The Eevee froze in place, staring the trainer down... ready to bolt... but despite the girl being awe-struck at seeing such a rare Pokemon, she didn't pull out one of those capturing devices at all... but actually knelt down and reached her hand out towards the Eevee. The Eevee lowered herself to the ground, eying the girl suspiciously - was this a trick? But the girl merely tilted her head, and smiled a smile that the Eevee couldn't help but be drawn to. She stared up at the girl, judging her... before slowly trotting up to her and letting herself get pet. Still, the girl didn't try to capture her. She just... kept petting her, and being so happy to see an Eevee. And then she asked the one question she remembers to this day:
"You look happy, but you're so lonely here... why don't you come with me and see all of Sinnoh?"
"Eevee!" The young Eevee couldn't explain why, but she leaned up into the girl's hand, and began traveling with her. Though she did technically have a Pokeball to herself, she preferred to stay out and travel alongside the girl, who was named Haruko. The Eevee, in turn, was given a name by the girl: Yuko. 'Child of leisure,' or 'affectionate child.'
Yuko traveled with Haruko, happily battling alongside her and her other Pokemon, eventually helping her on her own quest for getting all eight badges and challenging the League. It was a long journey, and a couple of years passed...
Yuko, now a Glaceon, stood alongside her trainer in front of the League entrance. "Ready to go, Yuko?" "Glaceon!" And though they did battle bravely through the final trials, and the Elite Four... they weren't able to beat all of them. Thus, Haruko's quest had ended for the time being, and they went back to settle with the girl's family. In time, she would try again, and perhaps succeed! Through some family get-togethers in other regions, Yuko found a couple of her siblings under the care of trainers, and reunited with them... but never was able to find her family's new home.
It was then that she decided she was going to travel Sinnoh on her own, to try and find her family again. Through Haruko didn't want to see her go, she understood Yuko's desire... and released her. Yuko promised Haruko she'd return someday, and they'd take on the League and win! But she had her own journey to undertake.
Yuko spent another length of time searching Sinnoh, exploring everything and meeting new Pokemon. Though she was never 'captured' by Haruko, she still considered herself the girl's Pokemon, and thus never let herself get captured by another trainer.
One day she'd find her family again. Or maybe she'd keep exploring until she felt it was time to challenge the League again.
Personality:
Yuko is a kind, friendly and rather enthusiastic individual, always happy to meet and greet everyone she runs into and especially loves making friends. Normally, however, she's fairly calm and collected most of the time, potentially startling others when she shows her enthusiasm. She makes friends very quickly, and for those who can withstand her infectious positive attitude, it's easy for her to become close with others. She is an adventurous soul, and when bored will often go out on random explorations, with or without others.
Yuko's initially calm demeanor doesn't tend to last long - eventually it usually gives way to happiness or joy at who or what she finds on a daily basis, as she is easily excitable. Even in the face of fear, or things that would tend to stress others, her optimism shines through like a bright light in a tunnel. To some, it may appear that Yuko is a fearless sort - however, this is far from the truth. She simply radiates positivity and uses it to overpower any fear or sadness she tends to run across. She is, however, prone to bouts of sadness whenever others are feeling down or depressing things are happening, before buckling down and doing what she has to to lift the gloom over the situation. Even then, extremely high levels of stress and/or fear can cause Yuko's optimism to break away, and she will begin panicking or lose sight of whatever she was doing at the time.
It takes a lot to get her angry, as well. Despite her battling through Sinnoh with her trainer, Yuko doesn't like to fight unless she absolutely has to. And even then, she won't battle at full power until she's under enough pressure. Don't mess with her friends, or she will throw away her pacifism and rip you a new one. She has a strong sense of duty and justice, as well; if it is just for her to fight, and she feels it's right, she'll do what she has to.
Speaking of doing what's right, she absolutely loves doing things for others, whether they're her friends or not. To her, it's self-fulfilling to help others in their time of need, especially when they're not able to do it themselves and they really need the assistance. She doesn't even expect gratitude or things in return for what she does, because it makes her happy. She's compassionate, and can usually feel the pain from others.
She lives in the fast lane - always doing something with her time. She hates being bored! At the slowest of times, she'll venture out and find new places to explore, or new things to do. She'll even drag her friends into it if she can! Her sense of adventure is almost unrivaled; there's always somewhere new to check out! She even sometimes finds new routes to explore and travel, just because it's somewhere different. She doesn't hate familiarity, she just finds joy in doing things uniquely.
She's extremely social and loves learning new things - in any crowd, she can be found talking to every single person she can catch up to, no matter the subject. She's fairly talkative, and can chat someone's ear off if they don't stop her early on. Because of this, she also tends to lead others around, rather than following behind.
Relaxing sometimes isn't boring to her, especially when it's an end product of an adventure, or just somewhere she legitimately likes being around. This is especially the case when she has friends around and she's having a rare off day from her adventuring.
She's particularly imaginative, having vivid dreams and daydreams about her past and possible future adventures. This makes her seem a little like her head is in the clouds, but she doesn't daydream all that often. When she can't go adventuring, she loves reading adventure books, and uses them for inspiration when she needs ideas for future excursions. She's always up for trying new things, especially when it comes to exploring or meeting new people. As far as she's concerned, you've got one life, and you've gotta live it like you want it. She's a risk taker, though even she has limits and won't endanger others for the benefit of herself. She puts others before herself in most cases, and looks out for everyone's best interests, disregarding her own.
Yuko likes to assume that most individuals are good people, and gives them the benefit of the doubt until they prove her otherwise. If someone gives her the creeps or seems bad, she'll be skeptical, but still give them a chance. She's learned time and time again on her adventures that you can never judge a book by its cover. She herself is sincere in her words and actions, and would never, ever use people for her own gains, for any reason or in any circumstance. Most people would likely find Yuko an easy one to relate to, for these reasons. She also doesn't see the need of boasting, or seeing who's 'better' than another or herself in anything. To her, everyone is equal in their own way, and they should be treated as such. Shows of strength and boasts of power are among the few things that are generally either ignored by her, or are corrected by a speech about equality.
Yuko loves to set goals for herself, and almost always achieves them - provided they're within her power. She can sometimes set her sights a bit too high, setting herself up for failure, but she still never lets it stop her. Without goals she'd be sitting around twiddling her thumbs, after all! She also has an insane amount of willpower to do the things she wants to do, provided they don't clash with her interests or put others in danger unnecessarily. Depending on the urgency of the task at hand, she may or may not get distracted easily - matters of importance she sets her sights on rather severely, and nothing can deter her. If it's less serious, she may divert a little upon seeing new things or individuals to meet.
Yuko also loves the cold, so much so that when she's out in any source of heat or just any season that isn't winter, she uses her Icy Wind move to chill the air around her so that her fur feels the coldness that she's so used to - this can also be supercharged so she can defend herself against an attacker if need be. If someone's uncomfortable around the cold air, she tries to accomodate others by turning it down. However, she doesn't mind if others stick around her to also enjoy the cold air - she understands there are others that dislike the heat as well!
One important aspect of Yuko's speech is that she often speaks before she thinks, in the interests of being quick and efficient. This can lead to some hilarious or embarrassing conversation for the other party; however, she tries to think before she speaks to anyone she already knows well enough. When she does speak before she thinks, she takes the consequences of her words head-on.
And one more thing... Yuko loves ice puns. Most of the time, she won't make them intentionally, they'll just be randomly peppered in her speech. When she intentionally makes them, however, it's usually obvious. She herself doesn't really know why she does it, it's just a fun thing to do!
Strengths:
- Her moveset is as follows: Icy Wind, Ice Needle, Mirror Coat and Barrier. Her ability is Snow Cloak, which raises her evasiveness in a hailstorm.
- Being ice-type, she excels against flying, dragon, grass and ground types (though of course I know this doesn't exactly apply to pegasi and dragons in-game :P). She's also resistant to other ice-type attacks dealt to her.
- She has a strong sense of duty, and sees her tasks through to completion, assuming they don't result in the harming of others.
- She also has a strong sense of justice, and feels morally obligated to do the right thing in almost any situation (assuming that, as said before, it doesn't lead to the harming of her friends.)
- She's ridiculously difficult to embarrass, unless she actually screws something up herself badly enough.
- She's a risk taker, which generally is a strength and a weakness in itself, but in her case it's more of a strength because she only takes risks that would not endanger others, unless she is unaware a decision she makes would put someone else in danger.
- Her body is a good chunk of muscle, mostly to allow her inner body to be warm, as necessary for her to survive, while keeping her outer skin/fur cold for both defensive and casual measures. This also lends to her ability to move around quickly and at a moment's notice.
- She usually has a combination of her ability to control her body temperature inside and out and a low-powered Icy Wind to make it feel like it's always cold around her. Outside it doesn't reach very far, but inside she can actually function as a sort of natural air conditioner.
Weaknesses:
- Of course, being Ice type, she also has her type weaknesses: Fighting, Rock, Steel and Fire-type moves will deal double damage to her.
- Due to her enthusiasm and risk taking nature, she is seen as somewhat reckless.
- She acts and speaks before she thinks a lot of the time, as well.
- Quick thinking and being nimble is great, but it can sometimes lead to situations where she accidentally sets aside her 'not wanting to put others in danger' philosophy when she doesn't have a plan.
- Her body muscle is for evading, not for strength. She has very little physical strength whatsoever.
- Her will to avoid confrontation is a weakness in itself, as even when cornered she'll wait until she has no other option to fight back, unless a friend gets hurt.
